Speaker 1:

Welcome to the great New York State Fair in the Wolf Broadcast booth. It is Skip Clark and another great show on the way this afternoon starting at about 6. And the gentleman that's going to be on that stage. You may be able to hear the band kind of warming up behind me is the one and only Josh Ross.

Speaker 2:

What's going on? Here we go. How's it going? Yeah, happy to be here. The band's getting ready. I'm excited. It's a nice little overcast day. It's nice and cool out.

Speaker 1:

You know it is to your advantage and my advantage when the day is like this.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Because now you're not like standing in the sun, it's nice.

Speaker 2:

Yes, it's been a hot summer, so this is a treat.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know, it's so good to see you again. We had you in town last December for our Christmas show. Yeah, you were one of the many great artists we had on that stage.

Speaker 2:

I appreciate that.

Speaker 1:

Man, I'll tell you, you've been putting out great music. Of course you did Trouble. Now you got Single Again.

Speaker 2:

It's been cool to see everything kind of keep growing with each song, and the Single Again stuff has been really really cool. Yeah, just fortunate.

Speaker 1:

It's crazy how fast time has gone, though, since December On that show it was you and Drew Baldrige, and I'm trying to think of others, but anyways, there's somebody else. But to watch, you know, seeing what Drew has done and also watching you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, super cool.

Speaker 1:

It's like we get to know you guys before, before, before Before it all keeps going.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, it was really cool. Drew's a great guy and it's cool to see everything that's gone on with him too. And yeah, it's crazy to think that was December. We're almost a full year. It feels like we've all been just gone. We've got to get you back. Yeah, exactly, We'll figure it out.

Speaker 1:

We're here, yeah, yeah, I'd love to get you back to do something else. Tell us about the new tour. Now, this is your very first headlining tour.

Speaker 2:

Very first US headlining tour. Yeah, we've got really just. You know you open up for all these other acts for multiple years and you know you gain fans and then you forget what it's like when you have a. You know they're paying to come just to you now and it's definitely a different experience just watching the crowd and just very, very thankful.

Speaker 1:

Very cool. Now you started out with Trouble.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

That did very well. Yeah, single Again is of course a single again in the tour, but Single Again is the next single.

Speaker 2:

Yep, yeah, no, it's been cool. I love Trouble a lot. Trouble, I think, was a really good introductory song to who I am as a person and for the listener to get to know my voice. And Single Again is definitely the more fun side. And you know just the moments that I've lived. Both songs are just both true stories. So it just the moments that I've lived. Both songs are just about true stories, so it's cool to be able to play songs that are true to me.

Speaker 1:

Now, where are you from?

Speaker 2:

We're actually from Ontario, right.

Speaker 1:

So I'm not far from here.

Speaker 2:

No, no, yeah, yeah, near near, like Niagara Falls, hamilton, burlington area. Yeah, a couple hundred kilometers, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1:

Exactly yes, you are already a superstar in.

Speaker 2:

Canada.

Speaker 1:

But how is it making that transition to the States now working out of Nashville and doing all that? Yeah, yeah it'll be six years.

Speaker 2:

I've been in Nashville this November and I kind of left Canada before I had anything going on and I just wanted to be an international act. I wanted to travel the world and, you know, play music and it's been cool to see, obviously, the canadian side catch up to everything that's going on and and then, you know, also now working in the us. We were in the uk earlier this year, we go to australia in november, so, uh, it's just really cool to go everywhere have you ever been down under?

Speaker 2:

I have when I was 18, I ran away. What?

Speaker 1:

I ran away for a girl yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, where did it get you Out of money? And I had to go back home. I ran out of money. So, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was like 18, so Well, that's cool.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was cool. So you just said I'm out of here.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I went like, stayed in, like hostels and all that kind of stuff, and then, yeah, ran out of money and had to come home.

Speaker 1:

Is this. These are the guys you've been playing with right along.

Speaker 2:

Some new guys actually. So, yeah, one of the one of the guys is the original guy and then two new guys. And you know it's tough where we're playing one hundred and forty four hundred forty five shows this year and you know to keep, keep guys happy on the road is also a very hard thing.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, tell us a little bit about you've also got a song with Juliet Michaels. Yeah that's a brand new song, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, it's, I Want this Beer.

Speaker 2:

It was really cool. Universal had sent it to me. Originally, hardy's voice was on it. He was one of the writers on the song and I just love Julia's voice. I've always been a huge fan of her and I was able to sing it on my own. And then, you know, send it to her and she said cool, to play it, you know, at the shows. And now that we have some of the screens and stuff like that, we're able to, you know, make her there when she's not there to sing the song. So it's cool.

Speaker 1:

I love it. No, that's cool. So you said you've been in Nashville like six years.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

You don't have to tell me exactly, but what part of town do you live in? I've lived in seven different houses.

Speaker 2:

I'm in Hermitage now. I'm about to move again, but I spent most of my time in the Gulch. I lived in the Gulch area. Oh, the Gulch is pretty good, but I had to get out of town. It's too much trouble to be so close to everything. No pun intended, yes, literally.

Speaker 1:

But no, I hear you.

Speaker 2:

And a lot of not only you, but I know a lot of artists who will. That's a good thing, that's an okay thing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly, we're waiting to see the bar with your name on it.

Speaker 2:

That'll be cool. That'll be cool. Yeah, that's a trend.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Tell us about the Nickelback. You had a chance and I know you have a lot of fans here that actually became a fan because they saw you in.

Speaker 2:

Nickelback Very cool. Yeah, the Nickelback was, I mean, such a cool experience. It kind of set the, you know, the bar really high for me in regards to touring and you know how you put a team together and I was very fortunate to learn a lot from, from Chad and just everybody, and to call them, you know, friends and family now is the coolest thing. You know. I can call Chad if I have a question about something. Yeah, it's been awesome and you did like 50, 52 shows with them last year, so it was very, very cool.

Speaker 1:

Do they give you some good advice? I mean, they've been there, they've done that.

Speaker 2:

They've been on the road for how long? Yeah, I think you know watching them when they would play on a Wednesday night or Thursday night or Tuesday night and you know it's not necessarily your weekend crowd, you know, just seeing still how they work that crowd and they make it happen was really really, you know, cool.

Speaker 1:

Pretty, pretty wild, the full circle of being. You know, obviously Canadians use a full circle moment for me.

Speaker 2:

What do you do for fun?

Speaker 1:

this year play shows.

Speaker 2:

It is fun. It is fun, I have a fishing boat. I've only gone three times this year.

Speaker 1:

Because you've been playing shows.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I like to fish. Motocross bike I love a dirt bike.

Speaker 1:

I like to ride a dirt bike every once in a while you have a dirt bike, yeah.

Speaker 2:

I used to race. Actually, there's Batavia, there's a track. Yes, yeah, yeah, 51. My dad used to take me down there. We'd practice there.

Speaker 1:

From Ontario. Yeah, we'd drive down from when I was like 12 years old. Oh, cool dude, see you from upstate New York. There we go. I mean well, not really from, but very close.

Speaker 2:

I'm a Bills fan, so it all works out. Yeah Well, Josh Allen, what?

Speaker 1:

do you think, yeah, that's it, let's go. Hopefully it's a good year. There's like 103 of his peers that aren't very happy with him, right? Now I don't know what the deal is. Somebody said something wrong. Well, we're all. And of course college football kicks off tomorrow, so you watch the Bills, You're probably a big football fan.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I am a football fan. College is confusing. I've always been fans of players. Really, you know, I played Canadian football, which is interesting, so I always admired certain players that you know played on different teams in the US and college teams. So I don't necessarily have a college team Fantasy football. Yes, try not to gamble as much on sports. Uh, try to save the money so it's so easy.

Speaker 1:

Now you, we have all these different apps where you can jump on oh yeah, bet against the pass, yeah, or?

Speaker 2:

pass or somebody's shoes group chats and everybody's betting against each other.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly well, let's get back to the show tonight I know I've seen on your set list that you do a lot of covers.

Speaker 2:

We're going to be doing a little medley for sure tonight.

Speaker 1:

Do you have a favorite?

Speaker 2:

I just like to play songs that kind of inspired me as an artist Through the years. We've got to cover different songs and we try to switch it up and do new ones. It just keeps it fun. It keeps it fun for people that are here today and they maybe don't know who I am too, and they, you know they're just showing up to to listen to some music and it's relevant for everybody.

Speaker 1:

So I am. Uh, I'm hearing from a lot of people that are here at the New York state fair and they look. I had no idea who was going to be here. Oh, my goodness, it's Josh Ross. So you've established a name for yourself. That's exciting to hear. Yeah, no, it's very cool. And all these young ladies sitting in the front row and I said, hey, you want to come over, I'm going to interview Josh. They were like boom.

Speaker 2:

I love it. That was very cool, very, very thankful. We love you. We're looking forward to a great show tonight. I'm excited.

Speaker 1:

The music's getting played on the Wolf by the way. I appreciate that big time. It's the artist that makes us good and we make the artists good.

Speaker 2:

So it works. It's a team effort. It is because the music that you put out and now people are going to listen and, yeah, it works so cool. We get to do this and, you know, get to see fans, get to hang out with each other and yeah, that's really what it's all about. We wouldn't have it without we had a great time in December, though.

Speaker 1:

It was awesome. It was very, very fun. We started this out talking about it. Very great, so good seeing you, my friend, great seeing you too, appreciate you very much, as always. Yeah, I'll be over there doing the presents later. Thank you guys. Thank you, yes, we're good to go.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, josh. We'll say hi to some folks, we'll.
